Blackburn Softball Heads to Fontbonne for SLIAC Quarterfinals Matchup
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Softball makes their return to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Fontbonne University for the SLIAC Quarterfinals.
CARLINVILLE, IL -- Blackburn College Softball makes their return to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Fontbonne University for the SLIAC Quarterfinals. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
The Beavers enter the game at 9-9 in the conference to be the fifth seed and feature two league leaders. Senior pitcher Shelby Koenig leads the SLIAC with 128 strikeouts this season which is 45 more than the next closest. She is second with 11 wins and is fifth in ERA with a 2.41.
Sophomore Kenadee Frey boasts the league's best batting average, hitting .467 this season and belted a league high 10 home runs. She is second with 50 hits, fourth with 33 runs batted in and fifth with 32 runs scored.
Freshman Mailee Schoen finds herself fourth in the league with four homers as well.
The team returns to the postseason after reaching the quarterfinals last season where they fell at Webster late after holding a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning. This year marks the 16th time the program has made the postseason.
Blackburn and Fontbonne split their doubleheader earlier in the season, with BC winning the first game 1-0 while the Griffins took the second game.
The Griffins come in at 10-8 in the conference. Their top pitcher is Sam Foppe who has struck out 48 this year and has a 3.30 ERA. Grace Paez leads the team with a .417 batting average while Macy Brown is tied for third in the leageu with five homers.
