Frey Hits 2 Home Runs as Softball Defeats SLU
CLERMONT, FL -- Sophomore Kenadee Frey hit two home runs for Blackburn College Softball as the Beavers defeated St. Lawrence University 8-3 on the first day of their spring break trip to Florida.

CLERMONT, FL -- Sophomore Kenadee Frey hit two home runs for Blackburn College Softball as the Beavers defeated St. Lawrence University 8-3 on the first day of their spring break trip to Florida.
Frey finished the day with four hits, three runs, a double and four runs batted in. Junior Zoe Mitchell added three hits, including a triple and a home run, four runs, and three runs batted in. Junior Breana Allen and sophomore Kailynn Kruep chipped in with three hits, with Allen scoring twice. Senior Julianna Tabian added three runs batted in with two hits.
The opener saw the Beavers take on national power Bowdoin University and fell 15-3. Junior Zoe Mitchell hit a triple in the fifth inning to score Allen and Frey. Mitchell scored on the next at bat thanks to a hit from Kruep.
In the second game of the day, Blackburn took on St. Lawrence University from New York. Facing an early 2-0 deficit, Allen walked to open the first inning, then got to third on a fly out by Sierra Hiser. Mitchell knocked Allen in on a batted ball that resulted in an error by St. Lawrence. A wild pitch allowed Mitchell to move up to second, a single from Kruep helped get Mitchell to third, and Kruep got to second thanks to a SLU throw to third. Tabian followed with a single, and another error from SLU allowed Kruep to score as well, putting BC up 3-2 after the first inning.
Frey added to the lead in the third with her second home run of the season, scoring Caroline Gibson and Hiser. Both Gibson and Hiser got on base with singles. During the next at bat, Mitchell made it back-to-back homers with a solo shot over the fence for her first home run of the year.
Frey hit another home run in the fourth inning to make it 8-2. Mitchell and Kruep then got on base and Mitchell made it 9-2 when she scored on a sacrifice fly by Tabian.
SLU added a run in the top of the seventh but it wouldn't be enough as Blackburn captured the 9-3 victory.
Blackburn returns to action Wednesday when they take on Clarkson University and University of Wisconsin River Falls.
